Director and Founder of AADI

George L. King, M.D., is the Research Director of Joslin Diabetes Center, Head of the Section on Vascular Cell Biology and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include vascular complications of diabetes, insulin resistance and its effects on diabetic cardiovascular disease.

         

       

Co-Director of AADI

William C. Hsu, M.D., is the Director of the Asian Clinic at Joslin Diabetes Center and on the faculty at Harvard Medical School. His interests include understanding the causes and treatment of diabetes in Asian Americans, improvement of culturally appropriate care and development of technology in the care of diabetes.

       

 

       

 

   

 

 

 

Senior Physician at Joslin Diabetes Clinic

Om P. Ganda, M.D. is a Senior Physician and Director of the Lipid Clinic at Joslin Diabetes Center and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ganda has authored more than 100 publications. His awards and honors include Capp's Research Scholar Award from Harvard Medical School, RV Sathe Oration Award at the Golden Jubilee of the Association of Physicians of India and the GP Moses Oration Award by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.

 

 

       

Endocrinology Fellow    

Eyiuche Okeke, M.D. is an endocrinology fellow at Joslin Diabetes Center. She has joined AADI to learn more about multicultural initiatives and to gain clinical research experience. Her goal is to establish an Afican American Initiative at Joslin and has applied for grants to conduct clinical research on the physiology of African Americans with type I diabetes. 

 

       
       

Dietitian and Diabetes Educator

Sophia Cheung, M.S., R.D., is a Nutrition and Diabetes Educator at Joslin and AADI's dietitian. Her research and clinical focus is on the relationship between diets and diabetes in the Asian American population.

 

       
 
       

 

 

 

 

 

Project Manager

Nancy Hong, M.S., oversees various projects, including AADI's annual "Spoonful of Ginger" fundraising event and the Joslin-Sunstar Diabetes Education Initiative (JSDEI). Nancy is fully committed to the mission of AADI and hopes to bring greater visibility to AADI both on a local and national level.

 

Clinical and Outreach Coordinator

Tracy Tsui is the Clinic and Outreach Coordinator.  As Care Ambassador of the Asian Clinic, she provides personalized service to help connect patients to their health care providers.  Her goal at AADI is to raise awareness of diabetes among the Asian American community and to support greater access to culturally and linguistically appropriate care. 

Research Intern (Summer 2008)

Shaun Leong joins AADI as a summer intern to aid in the data analysis of various ongoing clinical studies such as the Diet and Physiology studies. He is a recent graduate of the University of Western Ontario with an Honors Specialization in Chemistry and a Minor in Medical Sciences. He has a particular interest in healthcare and is devoted to furthering the objectives of AADI.

Research Intern (Summer 2008)

Sara Tian is a rising sophomore at Boston College.  She plans to major in Biology and has a strong interest in healthcare and medicine.  During her summer at AADI, she is involved in the Diet Study as well as outreach projects to promote diabetes awareness and education within the Asian American community.

 

       

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Research Intern (Summer 2007)

Phillip Kim is currently a pre-med senior at Cornell University, majoring in Biological and Environmental Engineering. He is dedicated to helping the immigrant population, especially the Asian Americans, through the power of medicine. He plays an active role in the Diet Study at AADI and has hopes to extend the reach of AADI into the Korean American population in Boston.       

Nutrition Intern (Summer 2007)

Emily Hou is a senior at Cornell University majoring in Nutritional Sciences.  After graduation, she plans to become a registered dietitian.  She is interested in minority health disparities as well as nutrition education and clinical care.  Working with our dietician at AADI, she is developing new nutrition educational resources relevant to the Asian American population and also providing support for the food and nutrition aspects of the Diet Study.
